EcoXplore: Pathways to Sustainability forum urges youths to take action

KUALA LUMPUR: Three experts gathered together in a forum to discuss the role of youths as agents of meaningful change and the current challenges of sustainability.

Throughout the forum, the speakers emphasised the urgent need for a new generation equipped with the right skills and mindset to tackle sustainability issues head-on.

Prakash Rao Sanasaya, head of corporate and business Strategy at Gentari, reminded youths that while advanced technologies are now available, an important gap remains: people who can harness these tools to create smart, efficient and cost-effective solutions.

“When you think a lot and do nothing, that is a problem. You need to be able to think and then translate those thoughts into real-world solutions for our ever-changing world,” he stated.

Drawing from his experience in the oil and gas sector, Prakash explained how, during his younger days, a slight shift in machine usage—such as repurposing existing resources instead of deploying new ones—helped reduce emissions in this traditionally high-polluting industry.

It was a powerful reminder that innovation doesn't always require major overhauls, but often starts with rethinking and reusing what we already have.

The forum concluded with a persuasive call to action from Dr Renard Siew, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Yinson Holdings Berhad, who urged the audience to be more observant and reflective in discovering how they can contribute to addressing the challenges.

“Take a pause and look at what’s going on in our world. That is how you will discover what sustainability issues need to be addressed,” he urged the youths in the audience.

The chief director of Youth Beyond Boundaries summed up their points after the event with an impactful quote.

"The forum has highlighted our theme for this year's FLES, "EcoXellence: Seeds of Impact," which reflects the heart of what the Future Leaders Empowers Series 2025 stands for. As the world faces escalating environmental and social challenges, each Youth Beyond Boundaries member is reminded to embrace our responsibility to nurture the next generation of changemakers.”

The EcoXplore: Pathways to Sustainability event was held as part of the EcoXcellence: Seeds of Impact forum, which is part of the Future Leaders Empowerment Series (FLES) 2025, hosted by Youth Beyond Boundaries at 五一吃瓜官网 University.
